So, DW is watching Oprah - and Oprah just debuted a new song "America's Song" written for the inaugeration.
Now, I'm going to sound like PatStab or a conservative, but...
Couldn't we get Americans to sing "America's Song"? Seal - NOT AN AMERICAN. Bono - NOT AN AMERICAN. I'm all for international brotherhood and what not - but a song written for America in honor of the new POTUS - feels like it should be sung by AMERICANS.
And, it gets worse. The song was written by some guy David Foster. Apparently, he's a famous CANADIAN! ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

It was cheaper to outsource it.

I said the same thing Pooh. What was with all the non-Americans?
Same thing during the 9/11 tributes though. Celine Dion sang the national anthem. What? Did we run out of country or R&B singers? I could walk down the street and find 58 Americans who could sing it as well.
Also, the song sucked. Not catchy at all.

It is all part of the new trend to equal the playing field with America and the rest of the world. We are or were so far advanced from the rest of the third world that the people who pull the strings that make us all dance decided we need a level playing field. A good example was the price of gas. Europe has paid high prices for years. Manufacturing - China has taken over in that field. Agriculture - Central and South America. Natural gas - Russia.
And you are worried about who sings "America's Song", I'm worried because I can't speak spanish the new language of the USA. My luck I took french in high school. LOL

I haven't heard the song and now I'm kind of glad about that. I agree with pooh and bc; they could've asked Bruce Springsteen or Garth Brooks for example. Any American, really. With the exception of Ted Nugent.

Will.I.am, Faith Hill and Mary J. Blige are all American. And Bruce wrote his own song.
Besides it's great the international community is welcoming us back into the world community.

I think the most disturbing issue here is the fact that pooh's wife watches Oprah. I think an intervention might be in order.

You can add the fact that both designers for Michelles dresses were foreiners too. Personally I don't think it matters. She was beautiful. But why oh why couldn't they find an armed services man over 6 feet in height to dance with her? She towered over that guy on the dance floor, don't tell me they didn't already know she's 6' herself.

I have to say, I did love that white gown. You'd have to be 6' tall to wear it, but it looked fabulous.

10 balls. Was there just the one dress?

Yes, I think it was 1 dress for all the balls. It would've been a logistical nightmare to have a new one for each event. I also think she looked magnificent in the gown. It suited her perfectly.
